While the Superb Fairy Wren is common across south-eastern Australia, this particular enamel was inspired by a photograph taken in Tasmania, Australia. The male, as pictured here, has a distinguished mask with striking velvety blue and black plumage. Although the Fairy Wren is not a member of the true wren family, they are both songbirds and share in their love for insects. The Superb Fairy Wren has several peculiar behavioral characteristics; most notable, these birds are socially monogamous yet sexually promiscuous.
